According to JaricraB, when the PUP key is discovered end-users will be able to modify the update files similar to what was demonstrated in the video HERE.
The plan would then be things such as readding OtherOS to newer Firmware updates (possibly even PS3 Slim consoles) or perhaps 'downgrading' the PS3 Firmware to a lower version... time will tell what develops of course.
